IMPORTANT!! Breaking News – Vulnerability in Libre Hardware Monitor

Managed RMM

Update 16.01.2026:
The previously affected driver has been replaced by a new version from the Libre Hardware Monitor development team. We have adjusted our script accordingly. This essentially resolves the original issue regarding driver evaluation and the resulting warning messages.

We are currently observing timeouts in some environments with the new version and in combination with our script. We are already analyzing the issue and working on a quick fix.

We would like to proactively inform you about a current development:

The Winring0 driver is used by many tools, including the Libre Hardware Monitor, which many of you use. This driver has long had a potential security vulnerability that could theoretically be exploited.

Microsoft has now begun actively flagging Winring0 as a security vulnerability. As a result, numerous antivirus systems are currently raising alerts. Important: This is not a Trojan or virus, even though some reports might suggest otherwise. The risk lies in the way the driver works. You can find more background information here: Golem article about Winring0

We prefer to communicate this early so you can assess the situation and make an informed decision regarding your surroundings. The relevant script has been renamed for clarity.

Whether you want to remove the Libre Hardware Monitor from your environment is a decision you can make individually:

  • – If you want to completely remove the check on customer devices (including the software with the affected driver), you will find instructions in this [link/section]. Knowledge Base Articles Instructions on how to set the correct parameter.
  • – Should you subsequently wish to implement the distance on a larger scale, another [document/guide/etc.] will show you Knowledge Base Articles, how you can perform the rollout with minimal effort for all devices.

We're also keeping an eye on further developments for you. The driver developer is working on a new version of the driver; as soon as it's available, we'll roll out the update centrally to all environments.
