Date: March 27, 2024
In the monthly newsletter on January 13, 2024 We have already reported that major changes are coming. Now the time has come. The long-planned overhaul of Managed Endpoint Security will begin on March 27, 2024, at 8:00 AM. The process will take several hours and is expected to be fully completed by the end of March 28, 2024.
We are restructuring the platform
- The automated installation from Managed RMM is being restructured.
- The existing dynamic groups "Automatic Installation Standard" and "Automatic Installation Advanced" will be removed.
- The installation tasks in the respective groups are being resolved.
- The automation no longer takes place at the "partner level", but globally within ESET PROTECT.
- NEW: Devices in the "Unassigned Devices" folder will now be directly equipped with the security product. Previously, this only happened when devices were moved to the customer's location.
- In the future, the necessary installation tasks will be managed directly by the SYNAXON services team.
We clean up objects
- Cleanup of dynamic group templates
- There are duplicates in the landscape that will be resolved.
- In return, we will share more templates so that this is no longer necessary.
- Authorization sets
- Automatically generated permission sets are cleaned up if they are not used.
- These authorization sets are always generated when a customer account is created.
- The cleanup will happen repeatedly in the future.
- Certification bodies
- A software error led to the creation of unnecessary certificate authorities. These will be cleaned up, provided they have not signed any peer certificates.
- Installation programs
- Invalid installation programs (e.g., due to deleted customers/licenses) will be removed.
- Installation programs with invalid configurations (e.g., the selected product version is no longer available) will be cleaned up.
- Product activation tasks
- Invalid tasks (e.g., due to deleted customers or licenses) are cleaned up.
- Product installation tasks
- Invalid tasks (e.g., due to deleted customers/licenses) are cleaned up.
- Tasks without triggers or triggers will be cleaned up.
- On-Demand Scans
- Tasks without objectives are eliminated.
- Tasks without triggers will be cleaned up.
- No scan results will be lost as a result.
- Module update tasks
- Tasks without objectives are eliminated.
- Tasks without triggers will be cleaned up.
- These tasks were primarily created to "nudge" devices.
- Quarantine administration tasks
- These tasks will be completely eliminated, as they are only intended for temporary use.
- This does not undo any actions already performed.
- Tasks for configuration export, log upload and diagnostics
- These tasks will be completely eliminated, as they are only intended for temporary use.
- Component upgrade tasks
- Tasks without objectives are eliminated.
- Tasks without triggers will be cleaned up.
- „"End administration" tasks
- Tasks without objectives are eliminated.
- Tasks without triggers will be cleaned up.
Important to know
- During the work, logging into the PROTECT portal is only possible to a limited extent.
Please try to completely refrain from doing so during this time, as it significantly prolongs our work. - These adjustments will eliminate necessary steps on your end. Please ensure that your processes are adapted accordingly.
Why are these changes necessary?
We want to make your work easier. We can achieve this, for example, through increased automation. However, it's also crucial that we can provide a stable infrastructure. Unused triggers, tasks, permission sets, etc., lead to a slow and vulnerable system.
Do you have any further questions?
We're happy to answer your questions. On Friday, April 5th, 2024 at 1:00 PM, we will dedicate our Friday meeting entirely to the topic of Managed Endpoint Security.
