What exactly is the journaling function?

Journaling is an email archiving strategy that automatically copies all emails to a journaling mailbox immediately upon arrival at the email server, without any user intervention and before they appear in the user's inbox. From there, they are regularly copied to the archive system. The same applies to outgoing emails.

Why is journaling so important?

Journaling ensures that all emails are stored completely, faithfully to their original form, tamper-proof, and readily available over extended periods. This allows companies to meet their legal requirements, such as those arising in Germany from the GoBD (Principles for the Proper Keeping and Use of Books, Records and Documents in Electronic Form) regarding audit compliance.
